Punta Preta Cabo Verde PWA World Cup goes off with epic conditions
The first event of the PWA Windsurfing Wave World Cup kicked off this week with unbelievable conditions. Perfect 8 to 10 feet waves rolled through the point break with 15 knots of wind making for the best competition conditions the PWA has ever seen. Thirty Two of the top pro's battled it out for $35,000 and precious World Tour points.
Making it to the finals was Australia's Jason Polokow, Maui's Kevin Pritchard, current PWA World Champion, Cabo Verde recent transplant Josh Angulo, and Brazil's Kauli Saudi all managed to push their level high enough to make it into the top 4.
With outstanding, the local boy Josh Angulo ripped his way to first place. Having impeccable timing from knowing the break so well, Angulo ripped to pieces ever part of the wave to come up with the title. In Second was Kauli Saudi, who was laying some beautiful turns carving right in the pocket. Maui Sails Team Captain Kevin Pritchard took third place with his massive areal attack and Jason Polokow rounded out the top four with his power sailing arsenal.
"I am super happy to win this event. My friends and family were here to watch me take the victory, I could hear the beach cheering me on after every hit on the wave, it was really cool" said Josh Angulo
"The level of sailing here was just incredible! It was cool to be part of this event with such good conditions. My Maui Sails Starboard combination was really working good out there on the water. I was happy with third place and it is a good start in defending my world title again this year!" Said Kevin Pritchard
